On Wednesday 29 June 2022, RnB singer R Kelly, real name Robert Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Judge Ann Donnelly handed down the term at the Brooklyn federal court. Kelly is reported to have led a long-term effort to recruit and trap teenage girls and women for sex.

The Ignition singer faces child porn and obstruction of justice charges and is said to be among the most prominent people to be convicted of sexual misbehavior.
Several women spoke out about how the Grammy winner abused them sexually and how that led to most if not all of them having mental health issues due to their experiences.
Many of the victims took the stand to testify, stating that the singer had promised to mentor them and help them attain stardom, however, ultimately subjected them to immense sexual and physical abuse.
“You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how you made me feel”, said one unnamed survivor.

Kelly kept his hands folded and his eyes downcast and did not address the court.
The 55-year-old’s lawyer argued that he should get no more than 10 years in prison because of his traumatic childhood, which involved severe, prolonged childhood abuse, poverty, and violence.
