The National Executive Committee (NEC) top 6 candidate, President Cyril Ramaphosa, has sprouted theft charges against him which may increase chances of him excluded.
Earlier this year the NEC asked Msibi and Gumede to step down as they were facing criminal charges, this request further asked those facing charges not to stand for any position in the party.
“The NWC requested the national officials, as mandated by the NEC, to consider and make proposals regarding any further amendments to the step-aside guidelines and procedures, including about handling of any matters that arose before the decision of the special NEC,” said Mashatile.
The $4 million left charges faced by Cyril Ramaphosa has sprouted questions over his leadership style and if he may suffer the same fate as Msibi and Gumede.
The fire has yet to emerge as President Cyril Ramaphosa has provided details on the theft of millions of dollars in cash at his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo in 2020, with UDM leader Bantu Holomisa writing to Parliament calling for an investigation and for him to go on sabbatical leave during the probe.
“These allegations have been greatly destructive of the country’s image, both at home and abroad, and are likely to affect investor confidence negatively, especially given that President Ramaphosa has acted as the champion of good governance, and now this bomb has burst over his very own head,” said Holomisa.
The National Executive Committee were elected and announced toward the end of the conference. “Final list of candidates for top six ANC positions announced”
