JOHANNESBURG – Herman Mashaba resigns as councillor for City of Johannesburg (CoJ) to grow his political party ActionSA said in a statement released on Monday
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba resigns after serving as a councillor for the City of Johannesburg for 3 months as he wants to focus more on his political party and campaigning for the 2024 elections. The resignation will be effective on the 28 February 2022.
According to Mr Herman Mashaba his decision to resign comes after he has engaged in a meeting with the council, they came to the decision that he needs to focus on the growth of the party in all the 9 provinces with the aim to remove the ANC as the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
“Fellow South Africans, yesterday I issued my letter of resignation as a Joburg Councillor. After engaging my caucus & the Senate, all agree that my time must be spent leading the growth of @Action4SA in all 9 provinces, so that we can mount a challenge to the ANC in 2024.
“I am very pleased to see the calibre of individuals we have put forward as Councillors, MMCs & Section 79 Committee Chairpersons.Now that our caucus is settled & our MMCs are actively pursuing programmes of service delivery in Johannesburg, it is time for me to step back” Herman said in a statement.
He also added that his seat has to be filled by someone who will be available fully for the needs of the residents of Johannesburg. He also assured the residents that he is still a resident who is deeply invested in delivering services to the residents effectively with his multi party coalition he is working on.
“The important work of expanding ActionSA will require my constant travelling to setup structures across the country”.My Council seat should be filled by someone who is fully available to the needs of the residents of Johannesburg” he added.
