JOHANNESBURG | ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba has lamented ANC’s corruption and dysfunctional in running South Africa. The ruling party may not contest in some of 30 municipalities.
Mashaba said stats showing unemployment rate is 34.4 is not realistic. However, real stats should be 44.4%. He said they opted not to use numbers of people who have been looking for employment years back, that is why stats shows 34.4%.

“I think as South Africans, we should be honest about this. 34.4% unemployment rate is not correct but, realistically, SA sit on about 44.4% of unemployment,” he said.
ActionSA President told Pursuit Media SA, that about over 12 million South Africans are unemployed. Adding, that SA needs to focus on broad definition of unemployment.
Responding to corruption under ANC, he said the core problem started with Tripartite Alliance of ruling party, making the capacity of government dysfunctional to occupy position.
“The core problem, started with Tripartite Alliance making government dysfunctional to occupy strategic position,” he said.
He said ActionSA is ready to govern. They are going to contest in 6 municipalities with targets being Gauteng metros City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, and City of Ekurhuleni as core area for economy of South Africa.
Mashaba told Pursuit Media SA, they are aware of dysfunctionality of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Adding, given a chance, they will turn around critical conditions of these entities. He said some entities are critical in the hands of State, like Eskom, which has to objectively provide cheap electricity to South Africans.
“Some of our state entities are critical to be under state, like Eskom for provision of cheap electricity but others like SAA which government doesn’t run properly, we can let private sector to function them,” he told Pursuit Media SA.
Mashaba is of the view that ActionSA, primary existence is to allow young people to participate in economic sector.
“We want young people to be involved in running the economy, that’s why our leadership style target 30 years old average to be in leadership. It’s a deliberate move to allow them to be groomed, we do not want 60s like me to be in leadership forever,” he said.
ActionSA is open to coalition government with any party, but with lesser chances with ANC.
“ActionSA is open to coalition with any party. But, we will not enter into coalition with ANC and EFF on national due to policy clash. However, on local government we are open to EFF and others, as primarily objective is service delivery,” said Mashaba.
