Finding your soul mate is what one may hope for, but could finding two be a blessing in disguise? Traditional marriages have allowed men to marry more than one wife, but things may be taking a hard turn as some women push to have Polyandry legalized in South Africa.
Marriages have encountered a challenge, as they may be a possibility that things may change bitter or sweet women are asking for authority to have the same rights as men to be head of the household but this time them asking for polyandry.
The polyandry law which has still not come to pass has left most relationships in turmoil. They have no control over choosing whom they fall in love with because their emotions are common to men who practice polygamy.
Olona Saba states “it should be made a culture just like polygamy if it’s okay to love two women at the same time it should be okay to love two men at the same time, after all, it would bring the 50/50 we are preaching into existence”.
She later added that she understands traditional laws which grew up under but the customs which benefited only men when it comes to multi partners.
Since the introduction of polyandry. Many women feel that it’s high time they enjoy the privileges that men have, more authority over marriage choice, this includes going overboard ending up with 2 or more wives.
“If a man can marry and build a warm, loving home then why can’t we with polyandry”.
The idea of polyandry was submitted to the department of home affairs in May for authority to review and legalize.
This law would not only affect woman but man as well, and since its introduction that has been mixed emotions about it being legalized that have not yet come to pass.
Tshepang voiced out his opinion that it’s going to lead the young people astray and demolish the hard work in putting traditional laws together, marriage does not only affect the couples involved but we should understand that there are children who will be born it the same marriage, “A woman is not allowed to control a man, once they legalize this new marriage meaning the man will lose their power in households”
This may be an outbreak of confusion. A household can only have one bull, not two.
