Eskom has announced that stage 2 power cuts are expected to take place from 11:00 on Wednesday and are expected to proceed until next week Monday (7 February).
The blackouts are an ongoing challenge in the country as Eskom’s power units continue to breakdown, due to power units at Kusile and Kendal power station in Mpumalanga having tripped once again.
“This load shedding is necessary due to a shortage of generation capacity following breakdowns of two more generation units during the night. Since the weekend Eskom has utilized significant amounts of emergency generating reserves, which have now been depleted and need to be replenished,” said Eskom.
The power utility is expected to recharge their generators during this blackout period. The delays that have been encountered at Kusile have contributed immensely to the current constraints.
Eskom is asking citizens to cooperate with them as they try to get the power up and running again. The power utility is appealing to South Africans to use electricity wisely, switch off any appliances and non-essential items. Communication is expected to be given throughout the power outage period and when there are changes to the constraints.
