Interviews for the upcoming Chief Justice are currently underway in Johannesburg. This comes after Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng handed over his resignation in October 2021. The interviews are aimed at finding the next suitable candidate to replace the former chief justice.
Interestingly, many have their eye on Mbuyiseli Madlanga who is amongst the four candidates who are gunning for this position. Madlanga was the first to be interviewed and he made a statement that captivated everyone. In a statement, he said that he is set to bring about drastic transformation to the Constitutional Court and ensure that all its regulations are fair and efficient. His biggest focus will be gender equality in South Africa.
Judge Madlanga has proven over the years that he is not one to compete with. In a short frame of time, he was then chosen to be an Acting Judge at Bloemfontein Supreme Court of Appeal. His track record is definitely for the books.
The JSC is expected to give their judgement on Saturday and all eyes are on Madlanga to take up the position as people are confident that he stands for honesty and is a suitable candidate to replace former Chief Justice, Mogoeng Mogoeng.
