JOHANNESBURG – Residents in Roodepoort have been in the dark due to power outage since Sunday evening, 30 January. At 19:30 the City Power Johannesburg issued out a statement on Twitter that they are aware of electricity being cut off unexpectedly in several neighbourhoods of Roodepoort this after residents started complaining on Twitter.
These neighbourhoods include Ontdekkers Park, Horizon View, Horizon Park, Horizon Hills, Horizons, Florida Park, Constantia Kloof and Roodepoort North. The City Power Johannesburg tweeted that they were aware of a total loss of supply in these areas and apologized to the Roodepoort residents for the inconvenience.
“City Power would like to apologize to residents in parts of Roodepoort for prolonged power outages caused by Eskom inrush current when load shedding blackouts are restored. Ontdekkers substation cannot tolerate the inrush power load when Eskom switches power back on after load shedding,” read the statement.
City Power urged with Roodepoort residents to be patient as the matter is time consuming but necessary to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. The strain of electricity is caused by Eskom inrush current when load shedding blackouts are restored after Eskom has failed to maintain infrastructure with the backlog standing at R170 billion.
Furthermore, City Power is still trying to solve the matter as this was caused by rain, power systems being weak and whenever there is load shedding the electricity network is under severe pressure due to the massive load shifting and insurge happening when Eskom cuts and restore the power.
