The late Johannesburg Mayor Matongo to be remembered at several memorial services From Tuesday, various memorial services for the late Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo will be held across the city.
He was killed in an automobile accident on the Golden Highway on Saturday evening. Two others died on the spot, while others are recovering in hospital being his bodyguards.

Matongo and African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa had been on a voter registration drive. On Monday, it was reported that several memorial services will be held.
“It is hard to comprehend this tragedy, given the vitality and passion with which Mayor Matongo interacted with me and residents of Soweto so shortly before his death,” tweeted President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“There will also be memorial services for all the zones of ANC in the region and also the Methodist Church. We also have MVO people who will have their own memorial service,” Sasabona Manganye of the Party explained.
With Matongo being a strong supporter of Orlando Pirates, the club’s chairperson Irvin Khoza and his team are anticipated to pay their condolences to the family.
The ANC’s main memorial service will be held on Wednesday at Uncle Toms Hall in Soweto taking into consideration Covid-19 regulations, however mourners will be allowed to stream it online.
Matongo will be laid to rest in Johannesburg Friday the 24th of September 2021.
