CAPE TOWN – Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula on Friday welcomed amendments to provincial regulations in Western Cape, published by MEC of Transport and Public Works.

The MEC, Oaylin Mitchell, released amendments to the Provincial Regulations that ushered in extraordinary measures to address the violence between Mbekweni, Paarl and Bellville.
“We welcome these amendments, which allow CATA and CODETA operators to load passengers at the Bellville Public Transport Interchange from today. This is a welcome development which demonstrates the seriousness with which the parties regard the agreement signed earlier in the week,” said Mbalula.
He added, that equally pleased that the taxi industry has paid heed to the call not to place the lives of commuters and the public in harm’s way and allow due process to take its course in resolving conflicts.

The amendments to the Regulations further demonstrate government’s commitment in fulfilling its end of the bargain by easing the extraordinary measures gazetted by the MEC.
