This, according to Mineral Resources and Energy Minister, Gwede Mantashe. It is unclear if Eskom will be given fully to private sector.
The amendments would allow companies to go ahead with power projects of up to 100 megawatts without a licence from the National Energy Regulator.
Mantashe had been pressured to lift the licensing exemption threshold for independent power projects.
