After enduring immense pain due to gangrene, Actor Israel Matseke Zulu has resorted to having his leg amputated.
Israel began to fall ill while working on the set of Gomora, which forced him to ultimately say goodbye to his role as ‘Don Buthelezi’, his condition began to worsen, hindering his performance.
He says that doctors were surprised by the fact that gangrene is usually due to someone having high blood pressure and diabetes, of which he had neither. It was thereafter suspected that the medical condition was caused by smoking, which he ended up quitting.
“That is why those who believe in witchcraft would say I have been bewitched. But I go with what medical scientists said and that is why I quit smoking”, said Matseke.
Although he went back and forth about the decision to get his leg removed, he says that it was easy for him to move on with his life as he had already accepted his condition.
Matseke Zulu says that the biggest challenge for him is getting his mind familiar with the fact that his body has changed, as he sometimes forgets that he no longer has two legs, causing him to fall down frequently, thus delaying the recovery process.
Regardless of his circumstance he seems determined to rise up again saying that he will reach full recovery and that viewers can look forward to seeing him back on screen with a new prosthetic leg.
“It’s not like I was playing soccer. I know that in acting, people can create a storyline for a person like me. In fact, I got jobs when I was in hospital.
So my fans must expect me to be back once I have received my prosthetic leg in three months”, said the television personality.
