JOHANNESBURG | Gospel Singer, Dr Tumi and his wife have been exonerated by Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit from all charges at the Palm Ridge Commercial Crime Court in Johannesburg on Thursday morning.
The couple walked out of court free from all charges.
This comes after Tumisang Makweya famously known as Dr Tumi and his wife, Kaogelo Makweya were alleged to be guilty of defrauding the National Lotteries Commission for more than R1.5 million.
It was also alleged that the couple benefited an amount of R760, 000 from the Lottery Funds. The couple then handed themselves over to the authorities earliar this year and was granted bail. The case was an ongoing investigation for months.
However, the National Prosecuting Authorities(NPA) cleared Dr Tumi and his wife of all the charges.
The NPA unconditionally withdrawn the charges against the couple after going through the presentations and facts presented as well as circumstances of the involvement of the couple and came to the decision that the duo has no case to answer to.
The Udumo Singer commented “Due to the matter having had been sub judice, we couldn’t comment on it. From onset, we maintained our innocence because we did nothing wrong.
“Handing ourselves to the authorities was not admission of guilt, but was out of respect for law enforcement agencies and to allow justice to take its course.
The artist thanked everyone who has been supportive and that they will go back living their lives and putting everything that has happened behind them.
“This morning we are vindicated, justice has been served, we have no case to answer to. We are thankful for the support and love from our family, friends, colleagues and the public at this time.
