The DA has acquired more than 130 thousand signatures following a petition to cut fuel prices.

The petition has since been handed over to the Minister of Energy, Gwede Mantashe and Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana.
The mineral resources and energy spokesperson for DA, Kevin Mileham said the general fuel levy needs to be removed completely. ‘’That is about R3.93c per litre. The reason we say scrap that completely is because that general fuel levy goes into the national revenue fund and gets used to fund anything” he added.
He further went on to say: ‘’the corrupt ANC government must give the DA’s plan of cutting fuel taxes serious consideration, especially in light of predictions of further increases in July’’.
The Democratic Alliance said that the government should scrap the general fuel levy completely to alleviate the impact of the record fuel price increases on motorists and citizens as a whole. Petrol and diesel are presently anticipated to multiply once again, with petrol reaching R25 a litre.
Government has not hinted any interference regarding this ongoing crisis at this point. The Democratic Alliance has also made claims that the government has made little efforts in re-evaluating the basic fuel prices model.
The continuous increase in fuel prices is a massive problem to businesses and consumers. The fluctuations in fuel prices have had a major impact on the transport industries, which will in turn affect customers.
The fuel prices are continuously being adjusted because of the crude oil prices, international petroleum product prices, the rand/US dollar exchange and the short-term relief measures to address fuel price increases among many others.
The fuel price has also had a drastic impact on the cost of living in South Africa. Parliament is expected to exchange views with the Democratic Alliance about the dramatic increase in fuel prices.
