Teffo was arrested at the Pretoria High Court on Thursday afternoon. He was representing four of the five accused men in the Senzo Meyiwa trial.

All men accused have pleaded not guilty, denying having ever been at the scene of the crime which took place on October 26, 2014.

It is said that he was just about to wrap up his business for the day when he was arrested and marched out of the dock.

The Adv. was previously arrested in 2021 and charged with contempt of court, for an alleged failure to appear before the court in a labor-related matter. He was later released on bail.

His arrest ruffled some feathers on social media with some stating that he was being bullied for asking hard-hitting questions when doing his cross-examination.

The person who killed Senzo Meyiwa is highly connected. Some way or another there's politicians and high profile people who are pulling all the stops to ensure that person doesn't go to prison.

Poor Adv Teffo…..

No matter how many people they try & pay off or even try to silence the likes of Adv Teffo. Bheki Cele, Kelly Khumalo, Chicco & CO you all look extremely guilty. SAns are not stupid at all, the rope will eventually snap.

SAPS are BULLIES . They've been sitting with a warrant of arrest for so long & only now they decide to arrest Adv Teffo. They playing politics now. Adv Teffo says Minister Bheki Cele is behind his arrest, he doesn't want him on this case.

Will the Meyiwa family ever find justice

— Modibe Modiba (@mmodiba10) April 28, 2022

It is not clear entirely why Teffo was arrested during court proceedings, however, it has been reported that a possible reason could be due to him missing a previous court proceeding. The trial is postponed to May 30.

According to Tshepo Thobane (Teffo’s instructing attorney), the arrest came as no surprise to Teffo as they had received a tip-off about the arrest during their lunch break. The arrest has been described as a ‘scare tactic’.

When asked about his arrest by journalists, he stated that he believed the Police Minister Bheki Cele to be behind it as he wanted him off the case, he further accused the officers who were arresting him of intimidation.

When speaking to SAfm BTH’s producer he stated that his warrant was fraudulent.

He further questioned the timing of his arrest saying that the warrant was dated for January yet he was only being arrested now.
