This comes after she announced on her Instagram page on Tuesday morning that she had launched a fundraiser through her organization.

“My home of South Africa is going through an extraordinarily difficult time, and while I know much of the world is in pain right now, and a lot is being asked of us as global citizens, I’m hoping you’ll find it in your heart to help,” Theron said.

My home of South Africa is going through an extraordinarily difficult time, and while I know much of the world is in pain right now, and a lot is being asked of us as global citizens, I'm hoping you'll find it in your heart to help.

Last week, the most devastating floods on record struck the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province, killing 450 people and displacing thousands. For my organization @ctaop, we see our most critical role as supporting our Partners in whatever challenges they face – and right now organizations in KZN are reeling, trying to support their communities however they can, as affected families desperately need food, water, and shelter,” she wrote.

Her outreach project is said to have already raised approximately R900 000 in just eight hours.

The project was founded by the Oscar-winning actress back in 2007, to provide funds and support for community-based organizations in sub-Saharan Africa.

Theron stated that all of the funds raised will go directly to relief organizations in KZN, to assist families who are in desperate need of necessities.

The 46-year-old follows the footsteps of Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who recently donated R30-million to be used urgently in assisting with the situation in the province.

Some have called for Billionaire – Elon Musk – to lay a helping hand, as he is also a South African born that is capable of contributing to rebuilding the province.
