Polokwane’s first black mayor and former Capricorn District Municipality Mayor, Lawrence Mmakgabo Mapuolo,  officially joins the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The EFF leader, Julius Malema, immediately took to social media to publicize the news in a picture he took with the veteran. The party is ecstatically happy to welcome Mapuolo into its ranks of membership. Various pictures of Mapuolo with Malema as he joins the party has since been posted on social media.

Mapuolo is not a stranger to the political fraternity of South Africa, as he is known as one of the honored political leaders and activists in the Limpopo province. The forty-year African National Congress (ANC) Veteran.

His leadership history dates back to when he became a member of the Seshego Youth Congress around 1986, he then served as a secretary of SANCO in Seshego in 1989. He was later appointed as the chairperson of the ANC Central Region in 1995 and then re-elected once again in 2008.

He served as the chairperson for the ANC Peter Mokaba region. He has conducted conciliation of the Transitional Local Councils towards the first democratic municipalities. He was declared the first and youngest mayor at the age of 32.

Mapuolo’s titles include student leader, trade unionist, youth activist, and community leader to name a few. However, many were astonished by his decision to join the opposition party, following the comments he made during the burial of his mother where Mapuolo was heard saying he would die in the ANC and rubbished any claims of ever joining the Economic Freedom Fighters.

The EFF has described this as a historical moment in politics and represents a daunting statement of confidence in the party, its future, and the impact it has on its people.

Even though Kenyans went to the polls last Tuesday, the country had to wait on edge for six days to learn the outcome of a vote that was too close to call. The vice head of the electoral commission and three other commissioners claimed that due to the "opaque nature" of the election's last round, they are unable to accept responsibility for the outcome.
