The high rise of unlicenced shebeens in Mogale City has been a problem in the area, the selling and distribution of alcohol to underaged customers being the key influence of crime. The illegal shebeens formed by local residents in Mogale city are believed to be destructive and ungovernable as they don’t limit the alcohol sold at those places.

The police of Mogale city managed to close five shebeens that are operating, are not licensed, not following the rules and regulations of alcohol distribution.
On the 8th of April 2022, the Kagiso introduced operation crime prevention that lasted seven hours where they will usually begin at 4 pm. The focus of this operation was to try to control the influence of crime around the area due to more cases of rape, domestic violence, street robbery, a murder including several attempted murders.
The operation did share with the police that the main reason for these primary crimes is the high use of alcohol especially in Soul city, Central Kagiso, Swanville, Rietvallei, and Tshepisong.
There are currently five shebeens that were found operating unlicenced, the shebeens included all types of alcohol including those selling traditional beer. One shebeen in Soul city, two in Swanneville, one in Rietvallei, and one in extension 12 Kagiso. The other culprits were arrested for drinking and driving and three people were domestic violence suspects.

Kagiso station commander applauds the hard work and dedication of operation commander colonel Mabuso Peter and the team for working fearlessly and bravely despite the unfriendly weather.
The Kagiso police station spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya stated that they will not stop their fight to close illegal shebeens in the area.
